checked several hardware stores. I'm anxious to start hand treating
the rope myself.

from what i understand, hemp rope is more commonly used for
shibari/kinbaku in the west, while jute is more commonly used in japan.

"Interestingly, I have recently learnt that 'Japanese hemp' is a
misonomer as, apparently, nobody uses hemp rope in Japan. The Japanese language does not
differentiate between jute and hemp and it is merely a quirk of on-line dictionaries that
first component of Asanawa, Asa has been translated as hemp rather than jute (nawa meaning rope)

anyway, i would love to hear what others think about this jute vs. hemp
issue. either way, i'd like to find some untreated jute OR hemp, but have not found a place
for either here in san francisco.

After the mishap in SF where a suspension point failed and a person was seriously injured, I took a hard look at what I do as an aerialist and rope suspension performer. Death is a possible direct result from either of these activities. Now, there are things I do that mitigate those dangers, but not completely. I decided that I can accept that as a risk.

Specifically, I am wondering what type of bondage activities do you, dear reader, consider too risky to engage in. Then tell me why you won't do it.

I am NOT interested in answers like "I won't suspend someone by the neck." I am interested in answers along the lines of " I won't do inverted suspension because of the possible neck and head injuries."

I'll go first:.
I will not do any combination of bondage and submersion of my body, especially my head in any kind of liquid. As a former competitive swimmer, the psychological ramifications would be overwhelming for me, not to mention the obvious physical risks of the bottom not being able to move about in the water to assure their own air supply.
NC couple face murder in death of son tied to tree
By MIKE BAKER – 6 hours ago

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A couple accused of tying their 13-year-old son to a tree for two nights to punish him for disobedience has been charged with murder in his death, authorities said Friday.

Brice Brian McMillan, 41, of Macclesfield, told a deputy that the child was being disobedient and was forced to sleep outside Tuesday while tied to a tree, the Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office said. The teenager was released Wednesday morning but again tied up that night for bad behavior, authorities said.

The boy was left tied to the tree until the following afternoon when his stepmother found him unresponsive, Sheriff James Knight said. Knight said authorities believe the boy was bound to the tree with plastic ties and possibly other kinds of material.

"An adult couldn't get out of those," he said.

Temperatures in the area rose to above 90 degrees on Thursday afternoon, with a low of 73, according to the National Weather Service. Knight would not discuss any details on the cause of death, saying an autopsy was being conducted at the state chief medical examiner's office in Chapel Hill.

The sheriff also didn't have details on why the boy was being punished, although he said deputies were investigating whether he had run away.

Dwight Jefferson, an emergency responder with Pinetops Rescue Squad who was first on the scene, said he did not know the cause of the child's death.

"What we found was a 13-year-old laying on the ground — CPR being done by his father," Jefferson said. "Then we took over."

Knight said the boy was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

McMillan and Sandra Elizabeth McMillan, 36, also have been charged with felony child abuse. Two other children at the home, ages 7 and 9, have been placed in the custody of the Department of Social Services, authorities said. Knight said he does not know of any past allegations of child abuse in the family.

He also said he could not release the name of the boy.

The McMillans are being held in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under no bond and are scheduled for a first appearance in court Monday. The sheriff's office said they did not know if the couple had an attorney.

Macclesfield is about 90 miles east of Durham.

Ok, I'm going to stir it up now but here it goes. A little background. I was a boat builder, sailmaker, and professional rigger of sailboats including ocean racing yachts. I understand the strength of materials and how those strengths are deminished by angle of force, knots, swedgings, condition etc. I was also taught rock climbing by a guy who was rated sixth in the world at the time. I see lots of discussion about hardwear but I feel strongly that the rope that is used and how it is used poses a much greater risk of serious injury than does the hardwear I see being used. While working as a DM I have observed the use of severely compromised rope in full suspension by big names in the local scene. Granted if there is enough redundancy in a harness you can get away with a lot. I have also onserved these harnesses being suported by single point light line with no redundancy and then the subject hoisted 15 feet into the air on a slow chain hoist well out of reach of any help if one of these single points failed.
In rock climbing, if there is any sign of wear on the rope it is taken out of use for climbing. This wear is normally caused by abrasion in rock climbing. The lay, or tightness of the brade have a lot to do with the strength of the rope. Nylon rope that has been repeatedly washed and is now nice and fluffy is only a fraction of its original strength. Natural rope that has been softened by running it over a hard edge is much weaker than its design specs. There is no way of calculating the strength of these soften materials. Using any compromised or light line with less than a three fold redundancy (knotted on each end) is asking for trouble. When I began rock climbing we didn't have any fancy web harnesses. We would take 1/4' manilla rope and tye it around our waist with a square knot and repeat until we had at least four bands giving is a redundancy of four. Ok, lets hear some opinions.

Updated 06:32 a.m., April 23, 2008

COLUMBIA, Tenn. — A Maury County woman has been
charged with reckless homicide for what her attorney
says was the accidental asphyxiation of her husband
after he consented to be bound and gagged.

"The whole family is upset with what occurred," Samuel
Patterson, an attorney representing 25-year-old
Rebecca Bargy, told Columbia newspaper The Daily
Herald. "We stand by the fact that this was an
accident."

According to the arrest warrant, Rebecca Bargy placed
duct tape over James Bargy's mouth and eyes, put a
ball gag in his mouth and then tied a bandage around
his head, leaving only his nostrils showing.

She also tied his hands and legs behind his back. She
then left him for 20 hours.

"Apparently, this was not the first time it had
happened," Maury County Sheriff's Detective Anthony
Bailey said of the bondage.

Authorities found the 29-year-old' s body around 4
p.m. Saturday. Rebecca Bargy faces up to 12 years in
prison if found guilty.

"The proof will show that James consented to this
being done to him and that he was an active
participant, " Patterson said.

But detectives told Nashville television station WTVF
Rebecca Bargy was having an affair with another man.

James Bargy's sister, Lisa Brady, wrote in an e-mail
to WTVF, "Rebecca has repeatedly engaged in
extramarital affairs over the last few months. She
made sure she got him out of the way so she could have
her single life again."

Rebecca Bargy has a bond hearing set for 8:30 a.m.
Wednesday in Mt. Pleasant. She has pleaded not guilty
to the charges.

Hello everyone:

I'm not a great knotter. In fact, I believe there are only a half dozen knots that I can tie consistently correct.

The major reason I'm involved with this tribe is to look for inspiration for a chain net dress I'm constructing for my step daughter. I will be silver toned chain which she will usually wear over on or the other of the black or purple velvet gowns she has already.

I could do it in simple diamonds from the neck to the ankles, but that would be fairly boring. So I'm looking for knots I can adapt to chain working and making a fairly tight mesh over the torso of the body.

However, on another forum where I'm also searching for inspiration, a question was asked which got my mind working on my jewelry problem from the other side. What about making (tying) a harness that uses the Chinese style rope buttons and loops to make a permanently tied harness that can be buttoned on in a few minutes and unbuttoned in a few minutes.

It occurred to me that many of us suffer from time pressures and having a quickly assumed or doffed harness might be ideal for some of the folk who want to engage in shibari but haven't the skill to accurately tie every time--especially some of the more complex knots.

That being the case I thought I would ask the experts to design some tied harnesses which can be buttoned on or off and post pics of their best designs in this thread.

I won't be trying to compete with you on this site as I know the poverty of my own rope skills, but I do look forward to seeing your (pun definitely intended) master-works.

Likely first discovered by another (although we are not sure), I stumbled across the knot after deciding to apply the weaving theory of a Trinity Knot to a finished Double Coin Knot. The results, we’re positive you’ll find, is a stunningly elegant knot that looks like a sun setting over a river, thus the name chosen for the piece.

Over the last two decades many public play spaces have flourished and died in the bay area. Edges was built with love in the tradition of the best of these. Now we face a crossroads. The building we occupy is for sale. Ali and Alex are not able to secure a loan to buy it themselves, and unless someone steps up to purchase it from within the community it will be sold to outsiders. IT IS possible the new owners would let us stay, but at this time we have no commitment. As a community, we not only want, but need the support of Each Of You to see this through.

If you know of anyone in a position and with the inclination to buy the building and continue to rent it to Edges, please have them call Alex immediately. In the interim here is the current plan:

In order to continue providing a space to the community, (at this physical location or another) Edges needs financial support from our greater community. Ali has maintained Edges with NO debt for the past two years, yet neither Ali nor Alex take funds from their endeavors with Edges, but rather put all excess back into the space itself. We need the community to take on this same go-give mentality.

Unfortunately Ali is in school full time, just started a new job and is about to begin her internship for her laboratory career; she simply does not have the time to manage this extra workload! Therefore, we are looking for volunteers to manage fundraising events in the next few weeks. We need a General Manager of Fundraising, and people to organize specific events, organize the membership drive, advertise and spread the word, and more!

Please call Alex directly with any ideas or your willingness to take on some of what needs to be done.

Thank you in advance for helping us save this wonderful asset to the community! Know that it is our intent to do everything possible to secure our current location, or ensure we have a new home for all of us!

Zifra has offered to take all general inquiries and offers to help. Please contact her directly:
408-750-7858

We have a minimum of two months in which to raise fund to purchase the space or move! Show us and the community your support:

By committing yourself to visit the space at least ONCE a month, you will be helping us raise our funds. Encourage others online and through word of mouth to visit Edges' events.

If you will increase your membership to the red, blue and black membership levels, you will be contributingto this community endeavor and yourself. Your contributions will ensure that your own membership lasts!
If we have to close the door and are unable to reopen within 6 months, at least 50% of your increased membership will be returned!

Please visit Edges during a play party to increase your membership!
Membership level information can be found here: http://www.edges.biz/memberships.pdf

If the space is lost, these funds will allow Ali and Alex to secure a new space and move Edges to a new home. If the new landlord allows Edges to continue here, the funds will upgrade the space with showers, a full kitchen and the like.

We are committed to either remaining in our current home or moving! We do not plan to close our doors. Please join us in this committement and encourage others to help as well.

For example, I've noticed that hemp seems to leave much more significant marking than MFP. As far as suspension goes, does weight distribution or positioning make a difference? What about putting a cloth or padding next to the skin or just doing it over clothing?

Hi all,

I was very impressed with Conrad's suggestions on how to lower someone in suspension bondage
(you can find that in the "EMS backboard" thread here.) so I thought I'd ask him about another matter
that I've been concerned about for quite some time. My question, and his reply (reprinted
of course, with his permission), are below. I gotta say, I'm again very impressed.

[My original query]

Hi Conrad,

Say, I have a question: A lot of people recommend, as you do, the "two big guys" load-testing of suspension gear before a likely much less heavy submissive is dangled from it. My question is this: how can one be fairly sure that such "shock-loading" of the suspension arrangement does not weaken it during the testing process, leaving it more prone to failure than it was?

[Conrad's reply]

Have you encountered the (physics, not psychology!) definitions of stress and strain? Stress is force applied, strain is actual deformation caused by the stress. Deformation is of two types, elastic and
non-elastic. The elastic happens first -- all materials show some of this, even glass and other things we consider brittle. Stress something within its elastic range, and it returns completely to its original shape and position. Stress it more than that, and it will yield in some lasting manner. "Malleable"
materials bend or dent at this point before breaking, "brittle" materials develop cracks that do not
heal, and the material weakens even if it doesn't fall apart at that moment.

This is the short form. Certain metals and plastics "fatigue", which mean they may return elastically, but they can only do so so many times before cracks begin to form. My concerns about high-alloy steels in the original post are based partly in this behavior. (Also in the difficulties of welding or otherwise working them into safe products, but that's another issue.)

Your concern about tests weakening the setup which then fails during actual use basically applies to non-elastic materials. Wood and steel are quite elastic--which means they move quite a ways safely before any deformation becomes lasting damage. When I said to watch the ceiling to see if it flexes, the implication was that if it bends visibly _and doesn't return to it's original position_ then don't use the tie point again! Or the room for that matter. Duh. This would be a dramatic example of non-elastic strain before actual breakage, but even here you would have visible warning before actual strength was lost to the test.

A strong and elastic ceiling may have brittle components; in particular plaster may crack with even very slight deformations of the structure it's hung from. A small plaster crack around a ceiling tie point in a frame house wouldn't worry me, though it might lead me to try to double up the joist overhead, or install a bridging beam to spread the load across two or three of them. If a lot of cracks formed during a test, or a chunk dropped out, it would tell me that there was too much deformation happening, and I would not use that tie point unless I could beef up the structure that was holding it. In a raw attic that's easy; the simplest way is to lay a beam across three (or more) joists, drill the beam to match the hole in the ceiling, and thru-bolt an eyebolt. Use a generous washer under the nut, and cross-drill the bolt above the nut for a cotter pin or safety wire/castle nut combo. I would also nail or screw the beam to the other joists, against the remote chance that someone jumping around and turning might transmit
torque up through to the beam and gradually twist it off the other joists. Call me paranoid, but the
rethreading of the mushroomed bolt-end left me aware that if enough of your bottoms turn left
instead of right while they are being worked on, stuff can get turned up there!

So basically it comes down to the test only being as good as the observations you take during it.
That's why I like to have a couple of hefty friends make the test while I stand back and just watch
the ceiling. If you have to be part of the test weight yourself, consider using a loopof Dacron rope
(nonstretch) or chain to stand in--then use your sense of touch and motion to detect strain. If the
loop isn't stretching, any "give" you feel must be in the structure. You could also set a talking scale, a
lump of modeling clay, a piece of Dresden china...under the loop before the weight comes on, if you don't trust your sense of feel to detect the motion.

Hope this clarifies,

EMS Backboard as Suspension Bondage Rescue Device

Copyright 2008 by Jay Wiseman, First Responder Instructor

So the other night this old dog learned a new trick. In the wake of some recent unfortunate incidents, some of the people local to the San Francisco Bay Area BDSM scene who are particularly knowledgeable and experienced regarding suspension bondage organized a one-evening educational event for DM-types regarding how to evaluate a suspension bondage scene. The presenters included Loki, JD of the Two Knotty Boys, Madame Butterfly, and a few others. The well-attended event was held without charge at the SF Citadel. Kudos to all.

It was a very good use of an evening and much good stuff was presented. The strong and widespread sense of concern for and commitment to the well-being of the people in our community was very touching to see. I would definitely like to see more such events, maybe even one every three months or so on a particular topic.

One thing in particular jumped out at me.

Many of us are familiar with the multi-faceted difficulties of getting a person in suspension bondage down onto the ground in a rapid yet controlled manner should a serious difficulty emerge. So here’s a thought: how about bringing the ground (so to speak) up to the suspended person?

How to do this was demonstrated by placing a bottom in suspension bondage, assuming that a serious difficulty had emerged, and having some people bring out an EMS-style long backboard and placing it under the suspended bottom, then lifting the backboard up to support their weight (at least two people are needed for this and – space allowing – four is not too many) while the top and/or DMs work on the more immediate problem – which is often made much easier to deal with once a bit of slack becomes available in the suspension ropes. Once freed, the backboard, with the bottom on it, is then lowered to the ground in a stable, controlled manner where the bottom is given further care as indicated.

It was also pointed out that the backboard should, as a general rule, only be used to accomplish the emergency lowering. Should it become necessary to transport the bottom out of the facility, that task should usually be left to the EMS crews.

Folks, speaking as one who has used backboards on numerous occasions (although admittedly not in a scenario like the one described above), I *like* this idea. Backboards are typically about six feet by 18 inches and rated to at least 400 pounds. The newer ones are made of a very sturdy plastic-like material that, unlike the older wooden backboards, allows for excellent disinfection. Backboards are readily available, not terribly expensive -- quite adequate backboards can be purchased for about $100.00 -- and as the demo showed the learning curve for how to use one in such a situation is quite reasonable. Such a lecture/demo/practice session could quite easily be added to DM-type training programs.

It is obvious that the use of a backboard to support the weight of the bottom can be extremely valuable in the event of a suspension bondage emergency. Given their excellent cost/benefit ratio, it can quite reasonably be said that the time has come for every space where groups of people play and suspension bondage is engaged in to have a backboard discreetly tucked away where, if necessary, it can rapidly be brought into use by properly trained personnel.

Backboards are available from numerous EMS vendors. Here are three:

Hi my name’s J.D. [last name]. I’m one half of a decorative rope bondage education duo called “Two Knotty Boys”. For the past six months I’ve been posting instructional videos and video blogs on YouTube. I’ve done everything I can to remain within the terms of use guidelines, having gone as far as to print them out and post them in my workroom. Still, yesterday evening (03/08/08) my account was suspended.

Given my attention to providing positive, educational, and compliant videos, I’m at a loss to understand why the suspension occurred. As irony would have it, one month ago I received an email invitation to the YouTube partner program (an offer I was seriously considering).

Adding to my dismay is the fact that I’ve been a consummate and enthusiastic supporter of YouTube and the YouTube viewer community. I not only post, but routinely view the videos of others and comment upon their content; in the process I’ve developed multiple YouTube friendships. With the suspension of my account, all those friendships have now been severed.

I still consider YouTube a positive and progressive contribution to the new world of online information exchange. I believe in its mission and I support its contribution to community. In turn, I would like to continue providing independently produced content under the YouTube banner.

Thus, I respectfully request the reconsideration of my YouTube suspension.
One of the problems with being a DM in a public play
space is that all too often the DM has little
practical understanding of what can go wrong or right
Two Knotty Boys and Madame Butterfly as they speak
directly to how DMs can assist in suspension scenes.
We won't be doing drills on how to do it, but instead
dissecting the principles of good execution that cross

I've used Bamboo tripods, sling frames, swing frames (a stand braced at the sides by triangles or inverted T's with a single cross spar between them) , trees and industrial scaffolding to suspend people from. All have their strengths and weaknesses. My favourite was a box like frame built from steel pipe with and open entry, triangle bracing on three sides and cross spars at intervals across the top. I liked the ability to use multiple points to arrange my bottom in any position and I liked the use of pipe for both the industrial feel and the fact that it let me use hitches to create anchor points wherever I wanted them. I should point out that while I have done high suspension, I prefer to have my bottom where I can get at them (for my own evil purposes rather than simply safety :)

It seems that maybe Steven and I are on to something. Judging from the stuff I see people pull outta toybags, I think maybe we need a good discussion on suspension hardware.

So I'm going to start out by asking if anybody has reliable knowledge on the quality control measures that 'rigging rings' marketed to the BDSM community have been subjected to. My personal opinion is that they're made by somebody who either has a welder in his garage, or like me has access to a metal working shop. I've passed up a bargain on one before just because I don't feel confident about their strength.

Most of the hardware you see people use is not even close to strong enough to giving a healthy safety margin. Snap links, panic snaps, lag threaded eye bolts, and the twisted link chains are not rated or intended to hold anything near a reasonable load. I'm constantly telling people their rigs aren't strong enough, several have ignored me and proved me right.

On top of this, when you buy low grade hardware from a BDSM focused vender, you're paying a 3 to 4 hundred percent markup on crap you can buy at Home Depot or a leather supply house. So not only are we being sold unsafe crap, we're being overcharged for it.

If you're using gear that's actually intended, rated, and approved for fall arrest duty, then you are getting the safety margin you mention. OSHA and MSHA both agree that any fall arrest systems must be able to stop a load of 300 pounds from a 6 foot drop distance. If the combined weight of a worker and the tools they carry is greater than 300 pounds, they're required to use heavier equipment. Climbing gear is built to even more stringent standards, but, like Steven said in the other thread, most of this gear is single use only, once it's stopped a fall you should replace it. On the bright side, we don't do that very often in suspension bondage. I personally only replace my caribiners if they see some sort of trauma or I find shiny prettier ones.

I personally only use rigging hardware that's rated for fall arrest or stronger. I really like industrial heavy lifting hardware because it's always rated very conservatively, usually half to a third of the load it fails at. But if you don't have a cheap source, it's godawful expensive.

Perhaps we should post some pictures here of our rigging hardware along with information on what it is, what load it's rated for, where we got it, and how much it cost? If there's anybody in the Utah area, I can hook you up with some great bargains.

Hi all,

I've certainly made no secret of the facts that 1) I'm a switch, and 2) when I bottom, I particularly like prolonged bondage scenes. I recently had a chance to bottom in such a scene, and would like to offer something here for commentary and discussion.

Before I go on, let me mention that I had a competent, knowledgeable top with whom I have a long and good relationship, a safeword, was quite adequately monitored, and at no time did I feel unsafe.

When the bondage first goes on, it feels rather good. It's quite inescapable (she has become *quite* skillful at rope bondage), but kind of comfortable. Kind of fun, actually. Then time passes.

After a while, the bondage doesn't feel comfortable anymore. In fact, it begins to feel a bit uncomfortable. It's awkward. I have trouble moving from side to side. (I'm on a comfortable surface and in a fairly stringent hogtie.)

More time passes. "I wouldn't mind being released from this" crosses my mind for the first time. The ropes, being slightly abrasive, are starting to bite into my skin. I relax. Breathe deeply. I relax some more. The bondage is bearable -- at least for now.

Yet more time passes. I have now passed over into the "this bondage is definitely uncomfortable" zone. I'm starting to squirm, move, and change position more often. (Doing so is difficult, and sometimes tighens one part of my bondage while another slacks a bit; a rueful trade-off.) I check in with my top, making sure she knows that I'm now uncomfortable and also making sure that she's choosing for me to be where I am. She affirms, with beautifully wicked smile, that she is indeed choosing for me to have this experience. Hearing that helps -- emotionally, anyway.

Yet more time passes. How much, I know not. (My top has quite intentionally moved both clocks in the room to places where I cannnot see them.) The bondage itself has become torture. It's freakin' relentless, providing me with not even an instant of respite. I check my physical condition. No part of me is numb. I can move and feel everything. No "bad pain" anywhere. The rope has abraded my skin in various places and it hurts. It remains difficult and awkward to move. I cannot get comfortable. The most I can do, and that with painful difficulty, is trade one uncomfortable position for another. I am *enduring* this. I try to relax. I breathe deeply. Neither helps all that much. I feel my spirit starting to flag. That scares me a bit. How much of this can I endure before I emotionally collapse completely?

Now it's later. Things have definitely become harsh. My breathing has become a bit labored, and there may be a slight coating of sweat on me. In the back of my mind, I know that if I really need to I can stop this with a word, but I absolutely don't want to be released until she chooses to release me. She checks in with me. I let her know about my stress level and condition. She asks me if I want to be released. I give myself a serious think about it, then shake my head. I can go on. I actually want to go on. (Even though one part of my mind is shouting "You fool!" to another part of my mind.) She gives me yet another of those wicked yet beautiful smiles, and strokes my cheek and hair with her wonderfully cool hand. Bliss!

How long have I been like this? There is now no respite from the pain at all. I just simply and helplessly endure, and endure, and endure. It reminds me of those long-distance runs I used to do so very long ago. I just keep on. So what if doing so is painful and very difficult? I do it anyway. She comes close, holds my face in her hands, and looks long and deeply into my somewhat unfocused eyes. I see her beautiful smile. I try to smile back. I think I succeed, kind of.

It's yet still later. "I think you've had enough" I hear her say. I feel her fingers plucking at knots far beyond my ability to reach. Will I be able to deal with being untied? I honestly don't know. Slowly, very slowly, the tension slackens. The ropes start to come away. She gently guides my aching, abraded body back into an unstrained position and continues to untie me. I can move, but only weakly and slowly.

Her hands lift off the last rope. I lay there, face up and utterly spent. She lies beside me. We gently touch. My outer body aches and burns. I know I'll be hitting the pain and stiffness pills. My inner body, and my mind, feel the deepest sense of peace, calm, and relaxation that I have felt in quite some time.

I squeeze her hand and whisper my thanks.

Hi all,

Well, saints be praised, my new rope bondage how-to DVD is *finally* ready for release. (I say *finally* because the guy who was supposed to handle the post-production editing *completely fucking flaked* on me, which led to my having to do the video editing myself, thus delaying the release by about six months. Gawdonly knows how much that asshole cost me in lost sales.)

Anyway, the new DVD now basically done, and actually I'm rather proud of it.

It's based on my "Arm Harnesses For Every Body" workshop and primarily addresses itself to how to apply a restraining arm harness to pretty much anyone, no matter what body size they have. Even if I do say so myself, it's a rather nifty course in highly usable, very effective basic rope bondage for non-suspension, bedroom-type scenes.

The DVD table of contents is basically as follows:

Introduction: overview of bdsm principles and safety measures.
Chapter One: basics about ropes and knots.
Chapter Two: three widely usable single-limb cuffs.
Chapter Three: two widely usable double-limb cuffs.
Chapter Four: Arm harnesses -- a total of nine, including three for people who can't cross their wrists behind their back, and six for people who can, including two Japanese-type harnesses and the "bondage bra" harness.
Chapter Five: How to extend the arm harnesses into hogties.
Chapter Six: Bloopers and out-takes.

All techniques are shown repeatedly and in close-up.
Total running time is almost exactly two hours.

While I'm in the process of making the "main" DVD widely available, I have about 20 copies of a "version 0.9" pre-release copy on hand. These contain some minor editing issues which were fixed in a later version, but the actual content is just fine. Given that these are highly unique items, I thought I'd give you yardbirds first crack at them. When they're gone, they're gone. (I'm only making this offer here and in Yahoo's group on Adult Rope Art.)

So, if you're interesting in picking up a copy of a very rare item, please drop me a line at jaywiseman@yahoo.com. (Also please let me know if you'd like a copy of the "regular" DVD as well.)

Best regards to all,

Hi all,

First, welcome back.

Second, while I wasn't up for discussing the recent local incident specifically in the "Mats?" thread, I'm certainly open to it being discussed more generally in this Tribe (and to "having a discussion" in general), so I'm creating this thread with the _suggestion_ that people post about it here. (Just please leave ad hominem remarks out. Those will be deleted and the poster warned.) Also, I would _prefer_ that the specific people involved _not_ be identified. (I'd like to see their privacy respected, and I don't see how naming them could contribute to the discussion in a postive way.)

So, as to the incident itself...here is my understanding of what happened. (I wasn't there.)

a. The incident happened at PE about four weeks ago (possibly on a Friday night).

b. A man (an experienced rigger), had a woman in suspension bondage. The scene had been going on for "a while" and he now had her in a horizontal, face-down hogtie suspension. Exact height unknown, but I gather that she was suspended approximately waist high.

c. The overhead attachment point somehow became detached from the overhead.

d. As a result of this detachment, she immediately fell to the bare concrete floor below, breaking her jaw in several places and shattering several teeth.

Anybody with anything useful to add to the above is welcome to do so.

Oh, just FYI, since then there has been a second incident (this one in Chicago), although not nearly as injurious as this one. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AdultRopeARt/message/19792 (You may need to be a member of the Adult Rope Art group -- which would not be a bad thing at all -- to view it.)

Best regards to all,

Jay
